Faraday - Now Shipping!!

Posted on June 05, 2014 by Adam Vollmer | 0 Comments

This is a blog post that's months overdue, but we've been so busy this spring that there's been no time to sneak away and share the good news. We're happy to announce that Faraday has begun shipping bikes from our first production run of Porteurs! So far dozens of our Kickstarter backers in the bay area have received their bikes, and by the end of July we will have put close to 200 Faradays on the road. An ENORMOUS shout out has to go out to our team and network of vendors and partners, who have worked super hard to make this happen, as well as to our Kickstarter backers and early customers, who have to be the most patient group of people on the planet. We're fortunate to be supported by people who truly understand that it takes hard work and time to create something truly innovative. Our early adopters aren't just buying a bike, they're supporting a revolution in cycling, and we can't wait to put a huge smile on their face when they go for that first spin on their new Faraday.

Check out some of our early beta riders enjoying their new bikes, and see what people have to say:

"Getting around by Faraday is now my BEST option. I get there more quickly and its much more fun. I love beating racers up the hills. I ride when I can and have noticed, with the arrival of my Faraday (#005), that I now commute almost everyday. The pedal assist completely transforms my hometown San Francisco experience. It's a gorgeous cycling game changer. I had high hopes for my Faraday but I never thought it would be this good."

"Just checking in to say I love this bike more and more every day! ... Great exercise. Great fun. ... Just loving it. Wouldn't change A THING."

"1st commute to work on my very own Faraday! Only 30 minutes vs. at least 20 in my car. Only problem is that my face hurts from smiling."

"I am adoring my new bike!"

"I love the inevitable chats with many fellow bike riders whenever they spot me and my Porteur. ... They generally focus on the elements of style ... A great way to make new friends!"

We have a growing wait list of pre-orders for Faraday's next production run, which will ship in late 2014. To reserve a bike from that next production run, click the big orange "Pre-Order" button on the home page or in the navigation window above.

We will be doing our best all summer long to make Faraday more visible and available to folks like you who are interested to kick the tires and learn what we're all about - all around the US. Sign up for our mailing list to be the first to hear about new products, announcements, and events near you. If you're in the bay area and interested in taking a test ride, we'd love to hear from you. Shoot us an email at info@faradaybikes.com or tweet @faradaybikes, and we'll get you out for a spin.

Happy riding!

Why we do it

Posted on March 08, 2014 by Adam Vollmer | 0 Comments

Doing a bike event in Austin recently, we had the chance to give a few hundred folks a test ride on a brand new, production Faraday. Test rides are always fun ... this one was especially fun. Maybe the best part, though, was this email that came in a few days later from a gentleman who'd tried out a Faraday. This literally made our day. It's one thing to set out to deliver a new experience and change the world's mind on ebikes. It's a whole other level when the world writes back to tell you to keep up the good work.

"Good evening Adam. We met last week while you were in Austin ... and your gorgeous bikes caught my eye while riding by on my Big Dummy. ... [Y]our bike blew me away.

Up until I experienced your bike I was against E-bikes for two reasons. They seemed lazy and I detested the look of them. After riding your bike for those brief moments my perspective has completely changed.

Thank you for changing my perspective on E-bikes. I realized they can be gorgeous and help out in those sweltering days. I hope to one day purchase a Faraday and now feel that bikes like yours can change the landscape of Urban areas in America.

Thanks for blowing me away,

-C"

Awesome. Thanks C, we love the feedback. We're looking forward to giving more test rides and changing more minds!

Debuting the 2014 Porteur at CES!

Posted on January 06, 2014 by Adam Vollmer | 0 Comments

Faraday is at CES this week, and is very excited to be unveiling the brand-new, pre-production Porteur that will begin shipping only a few short months from today! We're happy to have a featured spot in the booth of E Ink, whose display is featured on the Porteur's handlebar controller. E Ink's slogan for the show is "Technology That Enables Design", which we think couldn't be more fitting. There's so much exciting new technology rolling out at CES this week - wearables, 3D printers, 4K TV's, cars with laser beams (yes, for real) - it's amazing to be in the middle of so much new tech.

Check out some great shots below:

Day zero, setting up the booth at CES, with a prime location for the Porteur in the E Ink booth. Thanks E Ink!

Handlebar "selector" switch, with an E Ink display showing battery status. It's beautiful, high contrast, and always on!

Belt drive! Custom Faraday dropouts, Gates centertrack belt, Alfine 8 hub, and Shimano cross discs. It rides as nice as it looks.

We're looking forward to the show officially kicking off tomorrow. If you happen to be at CES, drop by booth 31646 to say hi. If only there was a way to give test rides...

Pre-orders end THIS WEEKEND!

Posted on November 23, 2013 by Adam Vollmer | 0 Comments

Hi from Faraday HQ!

We're heads-down on a Saturday afternoon here at Faraday headquarters soldering, coding, and building bikes. We wanted to take a break from all the fun, though, to share a big announcement:

Pre-orders for Faraday's first production run end THIS WEEKEND!

We're hand-building a limited number of bikes - fewer than 200 - and once they're gone, they're gone. You'll have to wait till mid - late next year for our next production run to ship.

What's special about this first run of Porteurs? All the great enhancements we've added to the design, for one. Other than being one of the first to hit the road on a Faraday this spring, getting a founder's edition Porteur means you'll be getting a bicycle entirely handbuilt in the US, by some of the best frame builders in America. Other goodies include discounted pre-order pricing, free shipping, and your choice of two colors - classic white or British racing green.

A $200 deposit at www.faradaybikes.com (hit the big red button) secures your pre-order. The balance will be due when your bike ships early next year.

If you have any questions about pre-ordering a Faraday, you can reach us at info@faradaybikes.com or @faradaybikes. See you on the road!
